How Toothpick Causes More Harm Than Good [Nurses Diaries]

 

A toothpick is the use of small stick of wood, plastic, bamboo, or other substance to remove food debris from the teeth, usually after a meal especially after eating meat.

 

Toothpick are often inserted in between two teeth to remove stacked food debris, this causes injury to the gum, and it’s underlying tissues.

How does toothpick affect your oral health?

The gum between the teeth are damaged. Also, the gum tissues below the gum are damaged or loss.

 

Signs to know toothpick injury

 

1. You start to feel pain and sensitivity because the inner tissue is now exposed.

 

2. There is widening of the space between the teeth which would lead to loss of contact between two adjacent teeth.

 

3. Bleeding of the gum maybe seen sometimes, all these affects the oral health.

 

Stop toothpick and rather get use of flossing or brushing your teeth after eating.
