Appointment of deputy regional directors

The Ghana Education Service, GES, wishes to appoint deputy regional directors for all the sixteen regions in the country. The appointment of the deputy regional directors will be the first time such appointments are taking place.

 

The announcement of the vacancy was issued on 30th August 2023. The deadline for application is 18th September 2023. Below is the letter issued by the Ghana Education Service to all regional directors.

APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY REGIONAL DIRECTORS OF EDUCATION

Management of Ghana Education Service with reference to the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020 Part 1, section 28. wishes to appoint Deputy Regional Directors of Education.

 

Kindly bring this noticeto all interested teachers who attended the promotion interview for Director II in 2019/2020 and were invited to the orientation program. They should submit the requirements stated in the attached advertisement to Ag. Director HRMD not later than 18th September, 2023, via angela.trimponmaa@ges.gov.gh.

APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS DEPUTY REGIONAL DIRECTOR

The Ghana Education Service invites applications from suitably qualified persons who are goal-oriented and results-driven with good leadership qualities for appointment to the position of Deputy Regional Director in the Service.

 

1. Job Purpose

Generally, to assist the Regional Director in the discharge of duties i.e. the effective and efficient implementation of Government-approved pre-tertiary educational policies and perform the functions of the Regional Director in the absence of the Regional Director (Pre-Tertiary Bill, Act, 2020 Part I, section 28).

 

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Deputy Regional Director will assist the Regional Director on the following duties and responsibilities:

a. Providing technical advice to the Director-General on matters relating to pre- tertiary educational policies and programmes at the Regional level of education.

b. Coordinating the implementation of pre-tertiary educational policies and programmes within the Region.

c. Assessing the implementation of the pre-tertiary educational policies and

programmes at the Regional level.

d. Developing of systems for monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes within the Region.

e. Exercising oversight responsibility for the efficient and effective management of human and material resources of the Ghana Education Service at the Regional level.

f. Ensuring the preparation and submission of annual and other periodic reports of the Region.

g. Ensuring the implementation of performance management policies in the Region.

 

3. Qualifications and experience

a. A serving certified professional teacher in the Ghana Education Service,

b. Satisfactory work history, with proven performance and exemplary conduct.

c. Must have been interviewed for promotion to Director II in 2019/2020 and invited to the orientation programme for ‘Potential Directors’.

4. Competencies

a. Extensive leadership, networking, monitoring and management skills

b. Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills

c. Excellent negotiating, lobbying and conflict management skills

d. Extensive knowledge and experience in pre-tertiary educational background policies and related issues.

e. Extensive knowledge of the operations of the Ghana Education Service and Allied Institutions

f. Excellent decision-making and problem solving skills

g. Emotional stability and ability to cope with pressure

h. Good knowledge of public financial management laws and regulations

1. Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skill

j. Knowledge of relevant IT applications

k. High integrity, confidentiality, firm and fair

1. Excellent report writing skills
