Transport Fares Reduced By Different Margins By Various Unions Effective 19th December [Find out yours]

1. For a couple of months, fuel prices and transport fares have been on the increase.

2. The transport fares which have a huge effect on prices of goods are hardly decreased by any significant margin.

3. However, the reduction in the transport fares this time is somehow significant, with a 15.3% decrease by the GPRTU and Concern Drivers Association by 10%.

4. The effective date for this reduction is 19th December, 2022.

5. Though it was the hope of the transport ministry of the government that the fare reduction would have been more than what was decided, the transport operators (GPRTU) stood their ground to peg the fare at 15.3%.

6. Apart from the relief of paying lower transport fares, it is hoped the decrease in transport fares will be factored into the pricing of goods and services in the country.

7. The challenge, however, is how a passenger will differentiate between GPRTU drivers and Concerned Drivers Association to be able to pay the appropriate fare decrease.

8. In a Citi eyewitness news report, the Concerned Drivers Association indicated they are likely to also increase their decrease in fares to the 15.3% that was decided on by the GPRTU.
