Samira Bawumia Literacy Prize (SBLP) Ceremony
Samira Bawumia Literacy Prize (SBLP)’ The Managing Director of GCB Bank PLC, Mr Kofi Adomakoh, has reiterated the Bank’s commitment to empowering the youth of Ghana to become industry giants.
“Investing in our youth is crucial to the sustainable development of our country. That is why we support key national flagship programmes such as CAPBSUSS and YouStart, which focus on developing and promoting the entrepreneurial skills of young people, with access to finance and markets,” he explained.
Speaking at the Samira Bawumia Literary Prize (SBLP) awards ceremony at the University of Ghana at which he presented some awards to outstanding writers, Mr Adomakoh said the Bank recognizes the importance of providing a platform for young writers to hone and develop their skills.
The winners of the 2022 Awards were drawn from various categories that included fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry. The winners were chosen from the over 1000 entries received for this year’s edition.

The winners; Gabriel Awuah Mainoo, Phinehas Osei and Henneh Kwaku Kyere who emerged as ultimate winners for the Poetry, Short fiction and Non-Fiction categories respectively each took home a certificate, GH₵ 5000, a laptop and other souvenirs.
GCB as a sponsor of the scheme, has facilitated the payment of all the cash prizes over the years.
The MD reminded all young writers that their talent and creativity are essential to the future of Ghana, adding that “we will continue to support you every step of the way.”
He pledged to continue working directly and through the Bank’s development partners such as the SEHP to nurture the country’s youth to become leaders and innovators.
The Guest Speaker was the Second Lady of Ghana, Hajia Samira Bawumia, who founded the awards scheme.
She commended GCB for investing in the programme which seeks to improve the lives of women, children, and youth in underserved communities in Ghana through diverse social interventions in the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment.
GCB Bank, believes in the power and the ability of young people and their contribution to nation-building. The Bank engages with this demographic (millennials and Gen Zs) continuously which helps in shaping and modifying its products and services.
