Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)

The University of Education, Winneba has designed the Postgraduate Diploma in Education to enable graduates seeking to become professional teachers to acquire the relevant certificates. Under the current educational reforms, all teachers must obtain a qualification in education to teach.

 

This means existing teachers must study and obtain a certificate in education. Also, anyone who wishes to become a teacher must acquire a certificate in Education.

More importantly, aspiring teachers must obtain a teacher’s license to teacher. And one of the preconditions to write the licensure examination is the qualifications in education.

Program name: Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
Mode: Sandwich (September-October)
Duration: One year (2 Sessions)

Entry Requirements

1. A good first degree of CGPA of 2.5 or better in any discipline outside Education from an accredited institution.
2. Candidates with graduating GPAs classified as Third Class and Pass must pass a selection interview.

Job Prospects

Graduates may get the opportunity to:
1. be recruited into the Ghana Education Service or any other school system.
2. regularize their appointments within the Ghana Education Service.
3. take up administrative positions in educational institutions.
