Podoe citizens provide bangalow to health workers in the community
Podoe is one of the oldest towns in North Tongu in the volta region of Ghana. The health centre there was the first health centre in the Volta region. The centre serves the surrounding towns and villages like Tsikpoe, Ando, Agorxor, Kpomkpo, Tsibukope, Dangbe, Avedotoe, Ayiwata and other surrounding villages.
Even though the health centre there serves a lot of communities around its jurisdiction, the nurses have no functioning bungalows or accommodation to stay in and serve the people in case of an emergency. This necessitated the youth to renovate a dilapidated and abandoned bungalow.
During the last Easter Home Coming celebration, the youth and people of Podoe decided to use the occasion to launch an appeal so as to get funds to renovate the abandoned bungalow.
The Member of Parliament, Hon. Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa was invited to the durba. He was amazed at how the program was organised and the love and enthusiasm being displayed by the citizens. He pledged an amount of ten thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 10000) to assist them.
On the 18th of August, 2023, the people of Podoe fully completed phase one of the bungalow, which is a self-contained single room, and duly handed it over to the nurses.
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu also promised to redeem his pledge so that the second phase of the project can also come to fruition.
Regular communal labour
On Wednesday 23rd August, 2023, the youths in the Podoe community organised communal labour to clean the health centre, the newly handed over bungalow and the surrounding area. They do this communal labour every other Wednesday to keep the town clean and healthy. Podoe is indeed a clean environment and a healthy community.
