ECG Disconnects District Education Office of Abura Asebu Kwamankese District

District Education Office of Abura Asebu Kwamankese District: It is not news that almost all educational facilities owe the Electricity Company of Ghana. It is a sure bet that all educational facilities which use electricity owe ECG.

Though other organisations and individuals may also owe the Electricity Company of Ghana, the case of educational facilities is different. The difference is that the educational facilities are mostly confused about whether they are responsible for direct payment of electricity bills owed to ECG or the government is expected to pay the utility company.

Even with the introduction of the free Senior High School policy where the government made it known publicly that the government would pay utility bills, it is not very clear whether the government pays the utility bills into the accounts of the various Senior high schools in the country.

The same scenario applies to the various educational offices from the district level to the national headquarters. It is not very clear whether the government pays the utility bills to the accounts of the various offices for onward payments to the utility provider.

This was the case when the electricity company of Ghana decided to visit the district education office at the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District in the central region. After the back and forth of engagement between the electricity company of Ghana and the education directorate, the district education office was disconnected.

It is yet to be known when the education office will be re-connected to the national grid for electrical power.

To complicate issues, the budget allocations to the educational sector are not released to the level that can be considered as satisfactory. Therefore, it will be virtually impossible for various institutions to be asked to pay electricity bills from any find released to their offices or facilities.
