Adenta Schools Under Trees Inside Accra Over 4 Years [link Video attached]
The term school under trees simply means schools that use the shade of trees as a comfortable space, as an alternative to a classroom in the absence of a classroom. The term is also generally used to describe schools that do not have a proper classroom with all four (4) sides properly built. The situations where schools do not have proper classrooms are considered as a major which can hinder teaching and learning. Unfortunately, Adenta schools under trees have been in existence over the past four (4) years. Surprisingly or even interestingly, public Junior High Schools are only about 12% percent of the Junior High Schools in Adenta Municipality
A video footage showing students having to close during rainfall is thus attached. The disclosure was made by the major education stakeholder, Kofi Asare, below.
Learners at Adenta Community JHS 1 have been studying under this tree for 4 years now. Adenta is just 15 Km from the Ministry of Education….and there are over 4,000 such classrooms across the country. Sadly, this school is one of the few (19) public JHS in Adenta, a municipality with a population of 240,000. The remaining 144 JHS are all private.
As I keep saying, the government is not investing adequately in public basic education at all. Our government must make basic education its priority.
