Diploma in Education graduates petitioned 9 bodies over NTC’s GTLE cancellation

The Coalition of Diploma in Education Graduates have petitioned nine different bodies over an attempt by the National Teaching Council (NTC) to cancel GTLE for them. The Diploma in Education graduates are very concerned that they have never been given the chance to write the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).

The Diploma graduates who are aggrieved have petitioned nine bodies to call the National Teaching Council to order. Below is the petition from the Coalition of Diploma in Education Graduates.

Dear Sir/Madam,

INTERVENTION FOR THE NATIONAL TEACHING COUNCIL, NTC, TO POSTPONE ITS DECISION TO PROHIBIT FRESH DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION GRADUATES FROM PARTICIPATING IN 2023 NTC EXAMINATION WHILST PERMITTING ONLY RE-SITTERS

We the underlisted Diploma in Education graduates from various education universities and colleges of education, across Ghana, humbly seek your urgent intervention on our behalf; so that the National Teaching Council, NTC, will consider postponing its decision to disallow us from participating in its 2023 examinations, which is being used as a prerequisite for employment.

The Diploma graduates herein referred include; Diploma in Science Education (DSE), Diploma in Mathematics Education (DME), Diploma in Basic Education (DBE), Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE), Diploma in Psychological Foundations of Education (DPF) from various education universities and colleges of education.

Several of us, the last batch of Diploma graduates, were admitted into education universities and colleges of education across the nation in 2019 and 2020, to read respective three year and two year Diploma programmes, and due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, and UTAG strikes, our graduation date shifted to this year 2023. We have therefore never had the opportunity to write any of NTC’s examinations.

Secondly, some of us for several reasons including financial constraints, were unable to participate in the 2022 examinations; and have also therefore never been able to write any of NTC’s examinations.

Thirdly, as part of efforts to facilitate smooth and efficient migration of colleges of education unto degree programmes, in April 2022, the University of Cape Coast organised special IC and resit papers for affected students, and results were communicated in December 2022,

The affected ones in this category have also now graduated but have never had the opportunity to write any of NTC’s 2023 examinations.

The only Diploma graduates that the NTC is permitting to write this year 2023, are resitters; completely excluding recently graduated diplomates as aforementioned.

Our predicament is occasioned by NTC’s letter to several universities, directing that, the universities should not upload particulars of Diploma graduates unto the NTC portal, to effectively deny us employment opportunities (Letter dated 15th June, 2023, refNTC/Exams/658/3/250)

We humbly seek your urgent intervention, so that NTC will permit we fresh diploma graduates to also participate in this year 2023 examinations in order to keep our chances of employment alive.

We humbly hope to hear favourably from you on this very urgent appeal; because NTC registration is presently ongoing for the second time this year, and we are still not able to register
