*Dear teacher unions, protect the pass rates

Staff of the Ghana Education Service are now more concerned about the GES promotion results that will be released in due course after the mass failure by candidates in the GTLE.

Pass rate in GES promotion exams

Trend analysis revealed that only about seventy percent (70%) of candidates pass GES promotion exams each time the exam is organized. The remaining thirty percent (30%) usually fail.

Pass rate in Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination

A similar percentage of candidates, 70% and 30%, usually pass and fail in the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination respectively.

However, about eighty-four percent (84.5%) of candidates failed the recent GTLE. The National Teaching Council (NTC) released the GTLE results yesterday, 20th June 2023.

The results showed only about sixteen percent (16.5) of candidates passed the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

Unusual failure rate and perceptions

Staff of the Ghana Education Service and the general public have speculated that GTLE candidates failed because the government has a financial reason (economic crisis) to order high failure rates through whatever means.

The government will not need to employ people who have not qualified and would not apply for government posting to schools.

Heightened fears among GES promotion candidates

Candidates who sat for the Ghana Education Service promotion exam are now anxious. They have heightened fears about their GES promotion results.

They fear a lot of them will fail, just like the GTLE candidates.

The demand from union leaders

Staff of the Ghana Education Service are calling on the teachers union leaders to protect the rate of the GES promotion results.

Candidates are appealing to the union leaders to ensure organizers of the promotion exam do not fail candidates unjustifiable.

Candidates expect union leaders to authenticate the results before they are released. This is to ensure candidates and the unions will not be fighting a correction of any anomaly.  Instead of preventing it.

The candidates rather hope that the pass rate of GES promotion results will increase. They hope the pass rate will be above the trended 70%.
