5 Reasons G.E.S Promotion Exam Will Not Be Written This December
1. The Ghana Education Service opened an online promotion portal in September 2022 for staff to apply for various grades of promotion.
2. It was also widely expected that the aptitude test would be written in December this year. However, as at 6th December, there is no sign of the promotion exam. Below are the five (5) reasons the aptitude test will not be written this December, we believe.

a. First and foremost, the government needs a hostage situation to successfully negotiate their way out of labour unions’ demand for a 60% salary increase. Delaying the promotion exam and using it as a hostage situation is very likely.
b. Revealing is the widely publicized date for the release of index numbers around 19th of November 2022. However, as at 5th December, there is no sign of the index numbers being released to prepare the candidates.
c. Also indicative is the fact that the date of the aptitude test has not been released or given out for candidates to prepare with such information in mind.
d. Worth noting is also the fact that lots of teachers who passed the last promotion exam are yet to be kept on their appropriate scale. Will the government be willing to add the numbers to the backlogs?

e. Another important factor is the presence of the Acting Director-general of Ghana Education Service, who is being challenged by the teachers’ unions for removal, still at post. Will he sanction any promotion activity in his current challenged state? Well
