Wassa Amenfi East teachers pay before receiving TMI laptops

Wassa Amenfi Eeast Teachers: The District Education Office (DEO) of the Wassa Amenfi East District has asked teachers to pay before receiving their TMI laptops. The Wassa Amenfi East teachers at the Junior High School level have no choice but to pay. ‘Do before complain’ as they say in Ghanaian parlance.

The District Education Office explained to the teachers that the money would be used to convey the laptops from the regional capital Takoradi to the district.

Though the district has a vehicle that the office uses regularly, the office claimed the money would be used to buy fuel for the vehicle.

Interestingly, commercial vehicles charge less than twenty Ghana cedis (Ghc20) per passenger from the district capital to Takoradi. The commercial transport fare is an indicator of the distance between the two capitals.

However, the District Education Office charges every teacher to pay twenty Ghana cedis (Ghc20) to buy fuel for the office vehicle.

It is unclear which other cost component went into the costing that demanded the teachers to pay the Ghc20.

In a related story, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) paid for the transportation of the TMI laptops from the regional capital to Krachi East District. Teachers in that district do not have to pay for the transportation of their TMI laptops from the regional capital.

Also, teachers paid their 30% cost components for the TMI laptops since November 2021. However, the supply of the TMI laptops is delaying since then.
