A Teacher Has To Buy Sanitary Pads For His Basic 8 Students Before They Can Come To School At That Special Time Of The Month

One thing teachers hate is for their students to be absent from school, especially their good students, because it gives the teacher the dilemma of whether to repeat the previous lessons or not.

In the case of the teacher, he could not bear the reasons for his learner girls’ absenteeism. The girls could not afford the Ghc10.5 (about $1.3) cost of sanitary pads to attend school regularly every month. The young Ghanaian teacher, whose workers’ union have to embark on an industrial action to force a 15% cost of living allowance (COLA) to be paid them due to their meagre salaries, had no choice than to sacrifice his already meagre salary to buy one (1) sanitary pads for his student girls numbering about ten (10) every month.

The teacher, in an attempt to solicit support from anyone who can help fund the sanitary pad initiative, sent a message with his school/address as follows

“The rate at which some of my basic 8 ladies absent themselves from school just because of their inability to buy sanitary pads to cater for their monthly holy ritual was on a high. After a series of inquiries, I realized that one is selling for 10.50p here, so I initiated this policy #Onegirl0nePad

I can only ask for help from any philanthropist or corporate organization.
