New Teachers Fund Short Code Introduced | Deadline For The Old Code. Does everyone need to register again?

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has established a mutual fund for members for their pension and for loans in the short to medium term. The teachers fund, as the mutual fund is named, has a mobile short code for members to use for several purposes. However, the short code in existence is about to be changed and a new teachers fund short code has been introduced for members to use for their self service.

The self service short code for the teachers’ fund can be used for the following self-services. The self services the short code can be used for are

a. to check the individual’s fund ID

b. to check the current contribution amount of the member

c. to check the total amount contributed so far by the member

d. to request an increase in the monthly contribution of the members

e. to request the annual statement of the members.

According to the mass message being sent to members, the former short code for self service, *800#, will cease to be functional in relation to the teachers’ fund effective Monday 13th February 2023.

The new short code introduced is *888# which will take effect from the Monday 13th February 2023. The message received from the teachers’ fund read:

The Fund’s current short code *800# will no longer be active from Mon 13th Feb 2023. Please use the new short code *888# instead.

Members of the teachers’ fund who wish to use the self-service short code system must first of all register on the platform using a one-time pass code accessible from district secretaries of the union. However, it is not stated whether existing users of the existing shirt code must re-register to be able to use the new short code

It is also unclear why the former short code will no longer be in use. However, it is believed by our team that it is because the former short code is also now associated with the staff bundle package for teachers in the country.

In conclusion, the members of the teachers’ fund must be aware effective 13th February 2023, they will no longer be able to use the old code, *800#. But they have to use the new short code, *888#. What is unclear and not known yet is whether every member of the union has to register again on the new platform or whether they can continue using the new short code without any new registration.
