Kpando SHS Wins Best School At 2023 STMIE Camp

Kpando SHS wins best school in a STMIE boot camp held in Central Region of Ghana. The best performing student also from the Kpasec received a laptop. Interestingly, the school received a projector for winning the award out of 245 participating school. A statement from the Ghana Education Service, which disclosed the outcome of the event is below:

Kpando SHS Crowned Best School at 2023 STMIE Camp.

The Kpando SHS emerged as the overall best school out of 245 participating SHS
schools at this year’s Science, Technology, Mathematics and Innovation Education (STMIE) Camp in Saltpond which climaxed at the Mfantsiman Girls SHS in the Central Region on Friday 24th February 2023.

The 5-day event put students into different classes for project-based activity learning. The students were taught Physics, Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Computing after which they were tested on the concepts taught.

Deputy Director-General of GES in charge of Management Services, Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, who represented the Director-General, Dr. Eric Nkansah as the chairman for the function, thanked the students and teachers for the wonderful display of creative works on STEM/STEAM. He said the GES is committed in using STEM/STEAM to advance the course of development in the country.

The Director for the Science Education Unit at GES (National STEM Resource Centre), Mrs. Olivia Serwaa Opare, said the purpose of the Camp was to give students the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities in STEM/STEAM as the surest way to impart the concepts taught in the classroom on the students permanently.

Other speakers such as the Special Advisor to the Honourable Minister for Education on STEM policy, Prof. Adom Asamoah who represented the Minister and the guest speaker for the event, Prof. (Mrs.) Mercy Denkyi, all emphasized the need to prioritize STEM education in the country.

Students who excelled in the Camp received various awards in the name of their schools.

The overall best school, Kpando SHS received a projector meant for improving digital learning in the school. This award is known as the Honourable Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s special award.

Stephen Agbofah from the Kpando SHS in Volta region was crowned the overall best student in the Camp. He received a laptop from the Director-General of GES as the most outstanding prize for winning the coveted prize.

Worawora SHS in the Oti region emerged as the best project school at the Camp.

Meanwhile, Sulemana Madihatu and Mawunyega Elikem from Ghana SHS, Tamale, and Holly Child School, Cape Coast, became 1st and 2nd runners up from the top 3 award category were Stephen Agbofah from the Kpando SHS was the winner. For their prizes, they all received a medal, trophy, and a certificate.

Sulemana Madihatu again from the Ghana SHS, Tamale, received a trophy as the best girl student in the Camp.
