G.E.S Review 2023 Academic Calendar

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service has called for a consultative meeting with major stakeholders to review 2023 academic calendar. The invitation letter, which was written on 6th January 2023, could be considered the first major engagement between the new Director-General and other stakeholders in the education space.

The letter which was signed by Patty E. Assan, the Director for Schools and Instructions Division at the headquarters on behalf of the Director-General, read:

Management of the Ghana Education Service (G.E.S) wishes to invite you to the above meeting, Consultative Meeting With Stakeholders On The 2023 Academic Calendar.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 10:00am in the Director-General’s conference room on Wednesday 12th 2023.

The major stakeholders expected at the meeting are:

1. Deputy Director-General (Q&A)

2. Director, HRMD

3. Head, Legal unit

4. CHASS

5. GNAT

6. NAGRAT

7. CCT-GH

8. NaCCA

9. Free SHS

Since the Ghana Education Service had earlier announced the reopening dates for all pre-tertiary institutions in the country, it is not expected the current reopening arrangements for this week will be tempered with. However, the meeting has the tendency to vary future timelines that the Service might be working with during the meeting to review the 2023 academic calendar.

Though it is not unusual that the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service would not be in such a meeting, it is yet to seen whether his rejection, by the teacher unions when he was appointed, is the reason for his absence

It is recalled that the president of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools indicated Senior High Schools are awaiting direction from the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education whether to continue receiving students returning from holidays or not due to lack of foodstuffs and monies meant for perishable goods, which have not been released as at the reopening date
