Foods Diabetic Patients must avoid

Diabetes is a rise in blood glucose or sugar level in an individual.

Blood glucose is gotten from the carbohydrates in the  food we eat. The body converts these carbohydrates into glucose and the body then uses the glucose as it’s source of Energy.

When one has excess glucose in his/her blood, this means the person has diabetes. There are foods diabetic patient must avoid to keep the blood glucose in normal range.

There are three types of diabetes ,

1. Type 1 diabetes

2. Type 2 diabetes

3. Gestational diabetes

People with diabetes normally finds eating to be difficult.

They normally worry that they must for go their favorite foods which isn’t so. You can still enjoy your favorite foods but in lesser quantities or less often.

Knowing foods diabetic patients must avoid is very important because when you have diabetes, nutrition is part of a healthy lifestyle you must follow, hence  following a healthy meal plan can go a long way to help your blood sugar levels normal.

It’s not easy to suddenly change your eaten pattern or what you eat most but you must try your best to adjust to the new changes.

When you have diabetes, what you eat or drink, the quantity you eat or drink and the time you eat or drink are all very important.

Some foods diabetic patients must avoid are

1. Sugar Sweetened Foods : Foods that are sweetened with sugar are very dangerous for diabetic patients since they contain a lot of carbohydrates which isn’t good for them.

2. Dried fruits: Fruits are very good sources of vitamins and minerals and are very important for diabetic patients, but when fruits become dried, they loss their water contents making the sugar in the fruit to be concentrate, rendering it not healthy for diabetic patients.

3. Fruit juice: Most fruit juice has added sugar in them. It’s advisable to go in for 100% fruit juice but take them with caution, don’t drink too much at a time.

4.  Breads, refined rice, donuts. These foods contains a lot of carbohydrates, which is the main source of glucose in the body making them unsafe for diabetic patients.

5. Fried foods and other foods high in trans fats and saturated fats.

6. Avoid foods high in sodium or salt

7. Limit or avoid alcohol consumption

8. Avoid fatty meats.
