Conspiracy Theory. Is GNAT Stabbing Other Unions In The Back Over Base Pay And Haircut?
Well, suspicion is never too bad a thing but puts everyone on their toes. While the potential victims are observant of people with the potential to inflict any injustice, the people who are suspected act with caution.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), who are the largest labour union in the country, started to act weirdly recently after presenting a fierce cooperation with other labour unions against the government demanding COLA and the dismissal of a new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.

The question, therefore, is what has changed? Below are the three case scenarios that present GNAT in a light to be suspicious of.
1. Before the government of Ghana disclosed a haircut on bonds, various labour unions started to call out the government over the decision. However, it took GNAT days after the announcement of the haircut policy to respond

2. Secondly, a very formidable coalition of labour unions in the country under the name “Forum”, which includes over 12 labour unions involving GNAT, issued a statement on the haircut being given to bonds owned by institutional investors that saw GNAT’s signature missing as one of the signatories of that statement.

3. Coincidentally, GNAT is the only teachers’ union called to be part of TUC for the next round of base pay negotiations scheduled for 13th December.
