About 27,000 Learners Are Not Taking Part In The Ongoing BECE Examination In The North. A National Disaster
Highlights
About 27,000 learners from Northern Region, Savannah Region and North-East Region of Ghana are not taking part in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination according to data from Ministry of Education (EMIS) and WAEC
Below is the details on the Facebook page of Africa Education Watch CEO, Kofi Asare.

“In 2018, 70k pupils were enrolled in P6 in the [then] Northern Region. This week, only 43k will be writing BECE. About 40% have dropped out, mainly because there is no cash to build Junior High Schools (JHS).
About 60% of primary schools in the North lack a JHS, with survivors walking long distances to access JHS in other communities.
Just half of the free SHS feeding cost for one year can build JHS for all the 1,400 primary schools in Northern, Savanna and North East that are without a JHS.
I keep asking myself: how can these poor dropouts ever make it to enjoy free food in SHS if there are no JHS?

I wish the remaining few a successful BECE…and may the GoG be effficient and equitable in spending scarce public resources on education.”
