66% Of Pupils In Greater Accra Failed The National Standardized Test (NST) Organised For Basic 4 Pupils, According To Africa Education Watch. Major Cause Revealed by The Eduwatch CEO
Highlight
According to Eduwatch, 66% of pupils in Greater Accra failed to meet basic proficiency in Math per the result of the first National Standardized Test (NST) written across the country.
In a Facebook revelation by the CEO of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare wrote, “so the Divine Mercy Roman Catholic Basic School in Papase, Ga West Municipal, how does the Class 4 teacher(s) manage the 120 pupils in one room for any effective activity-based learning?”
There are hundreds, running class sizes 200% higher than the GES recommended class size in Accra alone, including Unraniya Islamic BS (Ga South) and Oyibi Presby, where there is no space between the teacher’s desk and the pupils, Kofi Asare lamented.

“No wonder 66% of Class 4 students from Greater Accra failed to meet basic proficiency levels in Math at the NST. We are not building new classrooms/schools in urban areas even though the urban population is growing by about 35% every decade.”
In a sarcastic response to any possible queries from his audience, Eduwatch said, “don’t ask me what we should do”, to imply the Ghana Education Service and other relevant authorities already knew what the issues of the education sector are and they know the reasons why 66% of pupils in Greater Accra failed.
