Ranking Of Ethnic Groups In Ghana Based On Their Out-of-school Children At The Primary Level By UNICEF. [Gruma ethnic leading the pack. Ewe and Akans competing]

1. “At the primary level, 7 per cent of children are out-of-school, but some groups have higher out-of-school rates than others. For example, children from the poorest wealth quintile and children belonging to the Guan, Gruma, and Mole Dagbani ethnic groups have higher out-of-school rates compared to their peers from other groups”, according to UNICEF reports (unicef.org/resources)

The definition for out-of-school children simply means the number of children who should be in school, but for whatever reason, those children are not in school. The rankings are:

2. Guan 14%

3. Mole Dagbani 12%

4. Others 8%

5. Ewe 4%

6. Ga/Adangbe 4%

7. Akan 3%

8. Mande 1%
