Stop All Transfers | G.E.S DG Directs.

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service has asked all regional directors to ensure that processes leading to all transfers are halted. The directive which came to appear in the public domain after a press conference by the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) with respect to mass transfers in the Western Region could be a direct action by the Director-General to respond to the valid arguments of worrying teachers.

The letter from the headquarters of the Ghana Education Service was signed by Ms Angela Frimpomaa Nkansah on behalf of the Director-General. Portions of the letter read:

“Management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to inform all Regional Directors to communicate to all metropolitan/ municipal/ District directors of Education, as a matter of urgency, to hold on with all internal transfers with immediate effect.

You will be communicated to when modalities concerning internal transfers are reviewed.”

The letter circular which was written on 1st February 2023 was addressed to all regional directors.

Based on the content of the letter, we believe that it is safe for transferred teachers to remain at their existing stations pending the final review by the Director-General.

History

Some district education offices have the penchant of transferring staff in their districts to wherever they wish without recourse to issues of transfer grants which mostly do not come to the transfered teachers. The most disturbing aspect is when staff, who are just getting to settle at a new place get transferred to another location after such staff had paid for rents that may not get refunded.

It is, therefore, a good respite when the Director-General intervene in this particular case.
